Ever wondered why so many women’s circles are held at full or new moon? Read on for 7 reasons women gather with the moon and learn more about how honouring the lunar phases can help you to connect to your intuition, wisdom and a like-minded group of women!
Reconnect to the ancient power of sisterhood and cyclical living by coming together in sacred space under the light of the moon.
Women across the world and throughout time have gathered with the moon to honour and connect to the Divine Feminine. This is often done in women’s circles, which are a sacred and contained space for women to get together, honour their natural cycles, express themselves and support each other.
Gathering in circle is a powerful way to resist the linear structures that are in place across society and to reconnect to the more nurturing and free energy of nature.
The lunar cycle represents the qualities of the Divine Feminine. Many women find that by honouring the phases of the moon, as well as of their menstrual cycle (if still bleeding), they can reconnect to their intuition and the innate wisdom of the body.
Here are 7 big reasons women gather with the moon:
To flow with the rhythms of nature
Women may gather to celebrate the high energy and creativity of the full moon or to honour the introspective qualities of the new moon. By tracking the phases of the moon and respecting the cycles of our own nature, we can learn to treat our own being with the consideration it needs.
To connect with others
We aren’t meant to live this life alone, disconnected and away from community. Of course, time out can be super important and only you know when you need to replenish your energy with some alone time. But as humans, connection is essential to our wellbeing. Gathering in circle feeds this need and nurtures our soul.
To release emotions
It’s said that the moon can affect our emotions. In many Native cultures the moon is considered as Grandmother Moon, teaching us about intuition and the cycles of life. Just as the moon affects the tides, so does she affect our own emotional bodies. Gathering with the moon can be the perfect opportunity to release stagnant energy and emotional blockages or simply to bring awareness to how we feel.
To share stories
Storytelling is an ancient way to connect, express yourself and find your own unique voice. When women gather in circle with the moon, a sacred safe space is created to give voice to all that may have been hidden or yearning to be spoken.
To tune in
When we are living in alignment with nature, it is much easier to listen to our needs and understand our own bodies. Gathering with the moon gives us a purpose and a way to tap into what’s really going on beneath the surface.
To cope with collective trauma
For women, and women of colour especially, there is a lot of trauma carried through our ancestral lineage. Every one of us has our own ancestral history of trauma as well as carrying all that is going on in the current day. Navigating this can be really difficult and gathering in circle with the moon offers a way to cope together.
To set conscious intentions
Setting intentions helps you to get clear on what you want to invite into your life or on what you’re ready to release. Doing so with witnesses in circle can be a powerful tool for accountability and transformation.
